If you’re in the field all day, your website is probably the last thing you want to mess with.
But if you’re getting fewer calls than you should (or the leads feel off), your website is usually the reason. Not because it’s “bad.” Because it’s not answering the questions people need answered before they pick up the phone.
Here are the simple fixes that make a difference without turning this into a big project.

- AI-assisted lead follow-up so leads don’t go cold (missed-call text back, automated workflows, CRM routing)
The 10-second test (what your homepage must do)
When someone lands on your homepage, they should instantly know:
- What you do
- Where you work (Wisconsin areas)
- How to contact you
- Why they should trust you
If any of those are unclear, people bounce or keep scrolling until they find a competitor who makes it easy.
The “Fix This First” Homepage Template
1) Headline: say the service + the area
Skip the clever stuff. Be obvious.
Use this format:
[Service] in [Area] for homeowners who want [outcome].
Examples:
- Roof Repair & Replacement in Dane County
- Concrete Flatwork in Madison Built to Hold Up
- Tree Removal in Columbia County With Fast Scheduling
This also supports local visibility because your headline should match what people search (and what your Google Business Profile says). If you want help tightening that up: Align Your Homepage with Local Search
2) Subheadline: reduce risk
People don’t just want the service. They want to feel safe hiring you.
Examples:
- “Licensed and Clear quotes, clean work, and scheduling that stays on track.”
- “Local Straight answers. A quote process that’s simple and fast.”
If your message is solid but your site still isn’t converting, it may be a layout/structure issue. That’s usually a website development fix not a full rebuild: Explore High-Converting Website Structures
3) One main button (and your phone number)
Pick one action:
- Request a Quote
- Schedule an Estimate
- Call Now
Put it near the top. Then show your phone number right next to it (click-to-call on mobile).
If you’re running ads, this matters even more because you’re paying for the click. Before you increase spend, make sure the page can convert: Make Your Ad Traffic Convert Better
4) Three trust bullets (not fluff)
Most sites say “quality” and “great customer service.” That doesn’t help.
Use proof-style bullets like:
- “Written estimates with clear scope (no surprises).”
- “Clean job sites and respectful ”
- “Local references ”
- “Warranty-backed ” (if true)
- “Financing available.” (if true)
“Financing available.” (if true) Reviews do a lot of heavy lifting here:
5) Your services in plain language
List your main services like you’d say them on the phone.
Bad: “Exterior Solutions”
Better: “Roof Replacement,” “Roof Repair,” “Siding,” “Gutters”
Each service gets:
- one sentence
- a link to details
This also helps SEO because Google can match your site to real searches more accurately.
6) Make the contact section easy
Your form should be short. If you’re asking 10 questions, you’re losing leads.
Best basic form fields:
- Name
- Phone
- City
- What they need help with
That’s it. You can get the rest after you respond.
If you’re getting leads but they’re slipping through the cracks, that’s usually a follow-up system problem. A CRM + automation setup can help (missed-call text back, routing, follow-up sequences): Fix Your Lead Follow-Up System
Copy-and-paste homepage wording (fill in the blanks)

3 trust bullets:

- Service 1
